Walter Frederick Morrison
Before Walter Frederick Morrison and his partner split up they had developed a plastic version of the Frisbie pie tin. It was more accurate and flew further than its predecessor the pie tin. Morrison named the new version Pluto Platter. He had a patent on it. Morrison sold his rights to Wham-O. He managed to receive royalties in excess of one million dollars for his Pluto platter.
Wham-O
Wham-O is the company that coined the phrase Frisbee. After they bought the rights to the Pluto platter, the following year they gave it the new catchy name and reintroduced it to the market as a new sport. The ridges around the edge of the Frisbee are called Rings of Headrick. They help to stabilize the flight of the Frisbee. Ed Headrick is the inventor that designed the modern version of the Frisbee.
